Public consultations have been launched by Fingal County Council on two proposed play areas in Dublin 15.
These projects, at Hazelbury Park and Hartstown Park, will involve the construction of accessible, high-quality recreational environments with a strong emphasis on inclusive design, sustainability and biodiversity.
The development at Hartstown Park will cover approximately 3,000m². The concept, themed 'The Enchanted Forest,' is based around the park's existing entrance feature. Construction works will include the installation of around 20 pieces of play equipment, including zones for water, sand, climbing, swings and teen play. The area will also feature timber sculptures, seating, boulders and picnic/play tables. Timber balance routes, woodland paths and extensive landscaping with multi-stemmed trees are included in the design, supporting both play and biodiversity.
Meanwhile, the Hazelbury Park site will cover approximately 1,000m² and be built as a multi-zoned, nature-based environment. Construction elements will include a Woodland Quarter with a log climb, tunnel mound, climbing structures and tyre swings, as well as a Wetland Quarter featuring a biodiversity hub with pond and stepping stones.
Other features include a Hill Quarter, incorporating a domed hill, a stone plinth stage and an embankment slide, with plans also in place for a Meadow Area with mown paths, stumperies and areas intended for wildlife observation.
Both sites will require works to ensure full accessibility, including wheelchair access to all key zones. Landscaping and planting will be carried out to support pollinators and promote climate resilience. The projects aim to provide long-term, inclusive recreational spaces for the local community.
Members of the public have been encouraged by the council to review both proposals and share their feedback, via the consultation portal, before the deadline of Wednesday, August 27.
