A £420,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme in County Antrim will begin on Monday, August 11, Northern Ireland Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced.

The works will extend from the northern edge of Cargan village, on the A43 Glenravel Road, for approximately 1,880 metres to the local council boundary. The scheme also includes road drainage upgrades which got underway this week.

Discussing the scheme, Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Cargan area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our rural road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

A full road closure will be implemented to accommodate the resurfacing works from Monday, August 11, until the scheme's expected completion date of Friday, August 22, during the hours of 8pm until 4am.

During the times of the road closure, diversionary routes will be signed as follows:

• Car diversion via Carnlough – A42 Broughshane Road / Raceview Road / Carnlough Road, A2 Bay Road / Harbour Road / Garron Road / Main Street and vice-versa.

• HGV diversion via Ballycastle (due to height restriction in Carnlough) – A42 Broughshane Road, M2 Ballymena By-Pass, A26 Crankill Road / Frosses Road, A44 Drones Road / Hillside Road / Magheramore Road / Moyarget Road / Coleraine Road / Castle Street, A2 Ann Street / Quay Road / Mary Street / Cushendall Road / Loughareema Road / Tromra Road / Chapel Road / Mill Street / Bridge Street / Coast Road and vice-versa.
