Belfast-headquartered architects McAdam Design has been shortlisted at this year's Irish Planning Institute Awards, set to take place in Clontarf Castle Hotel, Dublin, on September 25.
McAdam's Athlone Town Centre Enhancement Project, which will be considered in the Urban Regeneration Category, revitalised three key streets in Athlone town centre, including the pedestrianisation of Sean Costello Street. The ambitious public realm scheme was delivered on behalf of Westmeath County Council.
McAdam provided the Project Management, Civil and Structural Engineering, Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP) services, and lead a multi-disciplinary team consultant team including SLR, Wallace Whittle, Sammon, CARLIN Planning Limited, Hoy Dorman, Consarc, SYSTRA, AAB, Gahan and Long Ltd, as well as the capital works delivery team at JOHN CRADDOCK LIMITED.
The completed project has helped to revitalise Athlone’s town centre, enhancing biodiversity and connectivity, increasing footfall and creating a welcoming gateway to unlock new potential for this vibrant urban hub.
