A burst water main has successfully been repaired in the Lurgan Park area of Galway City, Uisce Éireann announced yesterday (July 29).
Crews from the utility company worked until 4am on Tuesday morning to repair the pipe, which burst early on Monday morning and impacted on the supply to approximately 250 customers in the Lurgan Park and Gleann Rua areas.
Following consultation between Uisce Éireann, Galway City Council and An Garda Siochána, the decision was made to delay the repair of the water main until Monday night, in order to prioritise the safety of crews, road users and the general public while traffic volumes were high in the area due to the opening day of the Galway Races.
Leo O'Shea of Uisce Éireann thanked affected customers for their cooperation while these repairs were being carried out: "Uisce Éireann acknowledges the disruption that can be caused by an unplanned outage such as this one and we wish to thank customers in the area for their patience while works were underway."
Alternative Water Supplies were made available to affected customers while the outage was in progress.
