£244k Cook Court Refurbishment

A major refurbishment project has recently been completed at Cook Court, an independent housing scheme in Newtownards, County Down, owned by Clanmil Housing.

The £244,000 investment has delivered significant upgrades across the scheme, with work carried out by appointed contractors.

The project included improvements to essential systems such as lighting, fire alarms and the warden call system. In addition, all areas of the scheme were redecorated, with new flooring, paintwork, and furniture installed in the common room, kitchen, quiet area and guest room.

Clanmil's Director of Assets and Building Safety, Tony Giffen, commented: "The work we've completed at Cook Court is part of a wider investment of £5.4m in planned upgrades we're delivering during 2024/25 to maintain and improve properties. We're grateful to the people living here for sharing their ideas with us, and we always aim to focus on customers' needs. We hope they can continue to enjoy living in a place that's modern, safe and comfortable and that provides a welcoming social space."

The refurbished common room, now modern and comfortable, was used to host a small community event marking the completion of the works. Residents had been involved in shaping the design through feedback sessions, and their input played a key role in ensuring the final result met their needs.

The event included music and afternoon tea, with a visit from singer Daniel O'Donnell, who attended at the invitation of resident Christine McMenamin.

Isobel Thomas, who has lived at Cook Court for three years, is full of praise for the work. She said: "It has made such a difference to us all. We all love that it is so bright and cheerful. Everyone that comes through the door compliments how modern the makeover is."
