Athenry-based civil engineering specialist Coffey and Galway City Council are progressing key works on an active travel scheme along Ballybane Road and Castlepark Road.
The project, funded by the National Transport Authority and the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, aims to make travel by foot, bike and bus easier within the area, especially for students commuting to the Atlantic Technological University campus daily. The scheme also aims to benefit residents, businesses, and road users alike, while providing greener ways to travel and supporting more connected communities across Galway.
Included in the works are:
• Segregated pedestrian and cycle lanes – for safer, more accessible journeys;
• 12 new bus stops and 11 signalised crossings – supporting more reliable public transport;
• Smarter junctions – improving traffic flow and safety;
• Full resurfacing – smoother roads for everyone;
• New landscaping - enhancing local green spaces.
