Vertiv is running its fourth Electrical Switchgear Academy in the North West, funded by the Department for the Economy.
Working in partnership with North West Regional College (NWRC), the eight-week academy will train 16 participants towards a Level 2 qualification in Electrical Installation (EAL), preparing them for entry-level roles in the switchgear industry.
The course will include five weeks' intensive training at NWRC and three weeks' on-site training at Vertiv’s facility in County L'Derry. Participants will receive a weekly training allowance of £180, along with support for travel and childcare costs if eligible. The programme is open to applicants over the age of 18 who are eligible to work in the UK.
Welcoming the Academy, Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald said: "With no experience required, this Academy is a great opportunity for those who wish to reskill and return to the workforce as well as those who may be just starting out on their career journey."
Leo Murphy, Principal and Chief Executive North West Regional College, added: "North West Regional College is delighted to be supporting Vertiv with their continued growth in the North West. Our Assured Skills Academy will provide skills training in electrical installation and guarantees at least a job interview for people who complete the training which provides a direct lead into employment.
"We look forward to delivering this training to participants and equipping them with the skills they need to excel in their future career."
Those who complete the course will be offered an interview for a permanent Junior Panel Wirer role at Vertiv's L'Derry site. The academy runs from October 6 to November 28, 2025. Applications are open now and will close at midnight on Sunday, August 31.
