Funding totalling €500,362 has been officially approved for minor flood mitigation works and coastal protection in Cahore, County Wexford.
The Office of Public Works (OPW) announced the approval of the funds after giving the go-ahead to Wexford County Council's application, which sought to strengthen and enhance the existing inadequate rock armour protection.
The money was secured through the OPW's the Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme, which was first introduced in 2009. Since then, 24 funding applications by Wexford County Council have been supported under this scheme.
