Construction has commenced on a new Salt Barn and Brine Manufacturing Facility at the Ballyogan depot in County Dublin.
Representatives and local elected members from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLR) broke ground on the project, marking a significant step forward in enhancing winter road maintenance and public safety.
Also involved in the project are Kildare-based civil engineering company Clonmel Enterprises Ltd and Dublin-headquartered engineering consultant Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions.
The Salt Barn will provide secure, weatherproof storage with increased capacity, ensuring a consistent and reliable supply of road salt throughout the winter season. This upgrade will enable faster, more efficient storm response and reduce material loss due to exposure.
Complementing this, the Brine Manufacturing and Storage Facility will allow for on-site production of salt brine—an effective and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional road salt.
Together, these facilities represent a strategic investment in operational efficiency, emergency preparedness, and safer travel during winter weather events.
