Funding of €116,235 has been officially approved for flood mitigation works and coastal protection in County Cork, Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, Kevin Moran TD, has announced.
The Office of Public Works (OPW) approved Cork County Council's application for the funding which will be used for a study to explore the possibility for the implementation of flood mitigation solutions in the catchment upstream of Mogeely.
The funding was secured through the OPW’s Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme, which serves to provide funding to Local Authorities to undertake minor flood mitigation works or studies to address localised flooding and coastal protection problems within their administrative areas. The scheme generally applies where a solution can be readily identified and achieved in a short time frame.
This week, Minister Moran met with public representatives and community group representatives across East Cork, including from Castlemartyr, Killeagh, Mogeely and the Rathcormac areas to review and discuss progress on the East Cork Flood Relief Scheme and associated works.
In Killeagh, Rathcormac and Mogeely, the Minister also met with locals affected by flooding and surveyed the ongoing works in the area.
