Northern Ireland-headquartered GRAHAM has announced that its flagship female apprenticeship scheme, ConstructHER, will launch in Edinburgh this autumn.
The programme aims to create new pathways for young women to enter the construction industry and showcase the wide range of careers available within the sector.
Developed by GRAHAM in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW), the programme is open to young women in S5 and S6 who are working towards Highers in English and Maths. Participants will gain first-hand insight into the various roles that make up a major construction project, from quantity surveyors and engineers to design and site managers. The weekly sessions will also help to develop essential skills in communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Serena House, social impact manager at GRAHAM Building North, said the programme gives participants practical insights that can support future applications for apprenticeships and professional roles within the industry.
"ConstructHER has already created clear pathways into construction for young women in Glasgow, and we are now extending those opportunities to pupils in Edinburgh," she said.
Michelle Fenwick, director at Developing the Young Workforce, added that the programme is about breaking down barriers. "ConstructHER is about giving young women the opportunity to see that a career in construction is not only achievable but incredibly rewarding," she said.
The Edinburgh programme will run from Friday, 24 October 2025 to April 2026. It will cover key topics such as health and safety, sustainable construction, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and bidding for work. Those who complete the programme will receive a certificate and may be considered for apprenticeships with GRAHAM. Past participants of the Glasgow scheme have already secured apprenticeships with the company, combining work with further study at university.
An information session will be held at Jenners, Edinburgh, on Friday, 19 September 2025, where potential participants and their families can learn more about the programme.
