CivCo, the appointed contractor for NI Water, will begin pipelaying works next week to provide essential wastewater infrastructure for the new shared education campus in Ballycastle, County Antrim.
The project involves installing over 250 metres of pipe and constructing 11 new manholes between 71 Ann Street and the campus site on Rathlin Road.
Work will start on Ann Street on Monday, September 8, and progress towards the campus. To maintain safety during construction, a lane closure with two-way traffic lights will be in place from 58 Ann Street to the Rathlin Road roundabout. Rathlin Road will operate as a northbound one-way, with southbound traffic diverted via Strandview Road, North Street and Quay Road. Access to the bus stop adjacent to the high school will be maintained. This phase is expected to take two–three weeks.
Speaking about the work, NI Water Project Manager, Stephanie McBride said: "NI Water and our project team from AtkinsRéalis and CivCo take this opportunity to thank local residents, businesses and the wider public for their patience and cooperation while we undertake this essential work to serve the new shared education campus in Ballycastle.
"Our contractor will make every effort to complete the work as quickly as possible."
Later in September, Rathlin Road will be fully closed to through traffic between Ann Street and 44 Rathlin Road to allow pipelaying to continue efficiently and safely. Residents will retain access from either side of the closure depending on the work location, and diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Any temporary changes to bus routes will be communicated to local schools, with signage displayed at relevant stops.
