McAdam Design, acting as lead design and project management consultant, has released the latest proposals for the £42 million Carrickfergus City Deal Regeneration Project, commissioned by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
A public drop-in event will be held on Wednesday, September 24, from 4pm to 8pm at Carrickfergus Civic Centre, where residents, businesses, and visitors can view the plans and provide feedback.
The scheme represents a major investment in Carrickfergus, with works planned across several key town centre sites. The two-year construction programme is expected to create more than 140 jobs in the sector, alongside 150 permanent posts once the new attractions and facilities are complete.
Proposals include improvements to public realm, cultural infrastructure, and visitor facilities, designed to make the most of the town’s heritage assets such as Carrickfergus Castle, the harbour, and the historic town centre. The project, overseen by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, focuses on delivering modern, accessible spaces that support tourism, community use, and economic growth.
At the drop-in event, the public will be able to view detailed designs, meet members of the project and design teams, and take part in discussions. Interactive displays will be available, and feedback can be submitted directly to the council and project team.
Martin Hare, Managing Director at McAdam Design, said: "The Carrickfergus Regeneration Scheme is a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-imagine Carrickfergus by showcasing its many inherent attractions. This will be progressed in partnership with key stakeholders and the local community - everyone must be invested in maximising outcomes which deliver real-world benefits. We are now at an exciting stage in the process where the proposals are taking shape and we can share them in more detail with the public.
"This is the community's opportunity to see what's planned, understand the thinking behind the designs, and tell us what matters most to them. The feedback we gather will help ensure that the final designs truly reflect the needs and aspirations of the people who live, work, and spend time in Carrickfergus."
The event is free to attend, and no booking is required. Members of the public are welcome to visit the Civic Centre at any time between 4pm and 8pm to review the plans and share their views.
