David Walsh Civil Engineering Ltd is continuing to make progress on works to upgrade the wastewater network in Baile na nGall, County Waterford, which represent an €8m investment from national utility Uisce Éireann.

The works involve the construction of a new stormwater overflow tank and a new pump station, which is nearing completion. Works are also currently progressing through the community where almost three kilometres of sewer network will be upgraded.  

The sewer network will continue to be upgraded in Baile na nGall and the surrounding area over the coming months, along with upgrades to the existing pumping station and the completion of construction of new pumping stations at An Mota and Baile na nGall harbour.

The project will bring significant benefits to the local community and ensure environmental compliance with national and EU wastewater regulations. Once completed, which it is expected to be in the Autumn of 2026, the project will also improve water quality in Dungarvan Bay, a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), and protect the aquatic habitat of oysters and other shellfish within this designated shellfish water.

Commenting on the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Colm Claffey, said: "This new and enhanced infrastructure will ensure that wastewater in Baile na nGall is treated in accordance with the highest environmental standards prior to its safe discharge into the marine environment.

"We're committed to delivering these upgrades as efficiently as possible while minimising disruption for the local community. We appreciate everyone's continued patience and cooperation as we carry out this critical work."

To facilitate the safe and efficient delivery of these works, traffic management will be in place. A road closure will be required for the L-2027 and L-6119 local roads to facilitate the construction activities. Emergency and local access to properties will be maintained, and an alternative route will be signposted.
