Coffey Construction has provided a positive update on its Delgany to Blacklion (Chapel Road) Improvement Scheme for Wicklow County Council.
The scheme, in partnership with DBFL Consulting Engineers Ltd, focuses on safer, smarter connections for everyone who lives, works, or travels through the area.
In Section 1 (Convent Road Roundabout to Chapel Road), progress includes:
• Reinforced concrete walls completed with 200m of wall installed, ranging in height from 2.5m – 4.5m;
• Stonework is at an advanced stage with over 1,000m2 of stone installed on the new reinforced walls;
• New drainage networks now completed with 250m of storm water and 90m of wastewater infrastructure installed;
• Over 3,000m of ducting installation completed on the eastern section;
• 500m2 of new concrete footpaths installed along with 800m2 of a new Tarmacadam Road. This will facilitate an imminent Traffic switch, allowing construction works to commence on the western lane of Chapel Rd;
• Site clearance and ducting works are underway at the roundabout between Chapel Road and Delgany Woods.
In Section 2, summer works progress includes:
• Site clearance and tree felling works, which are now at an advanced stage;
• Over 2,500m of new utility ducting installed;
• The construction of the new drainage network, with over 100m of deep stormwater currently installed;
• Accommodation works which are well underway with 100m of reinforced concrete walls and 80m of block walls currently installed, the completion of the accommodation works will help facilitate the next phases of the project.
Discussing the project, a statement from Coffey said: "Looking ahead, one of the key benefits of this scheme will be its support for active travel. The introduction of new two-metre wide footpaths and dedicated cycle tracks will make journeys safer and more accessible, particularly for pupils of St Laurence National School and other nearby schools.
"With completion scheduled for mid-2026, this phased project will bring long-term improvements for residents, schoolchildren, and commuters. Coffey remains committed to delivering infrastructure that strengthens and supports communities."
