Cork-based contractor MMD Construction has been taking active steps to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention across its sites and offices.
The company recently rolled out a series of initiatives designed to encourage open conversation and highlight the importance of wellbeing in the workplace.
On construction sites, employees took part in 'Tea and Talk' toolbox sessions, creating time away from daily tasks to sit down with colleagues, share a cup of tea, and engage in open discussions. The sessions were aimed at reinforcing the message that it is important to talk and to seek support when needed.
At the company's head office, staff were invited to connect over tea and snacks, while additional activities such as head massages were made available to promote relaxation and self-care. These efforts were designed to underline the importance of looking after both mental and physical health, whether in the workplace or beyond.
MMD Construction reported strong engagement across the business and has committed to building on this momentum. Plans are in place to expand training for Mental Health First Aiders, ensuring support is readily available to employees. The contractor emphasised that small, practical steps can play an important role in breaking down stigma and making a difference in how mental health is approached within the industry.
