Rural Housing Association has started construction on 34 social homes at Kilnadore Brae in Cushendall, County Antrim.

The development, which began on site in March 2024, is scheduled for completion by March 2027. The project is supported by the Department for Communities and the NIHE Housing for All Shared Housing Programme, with total scheme costs of £7.2 million, including a Housing Association grant of £3.8 million.

Minister for Communities, Gordon Lyons, visited the site and the local primary schools, which were involved in naming the development. The winning name, Lir View, was inspired by the story of the Children of Lir and the local coastal and glens landscape. Minister Lyons noted that the shared housing scheme will provide modern, sustainable homes to meet local demand and contribute to the economic and social benefits of the area.

Stephen Fisher, Chief Executive of Rural Housing Association, added: "Lir View will be a landmark scheme for Cushendall, addressing housing need while supporting connections within the community. We look forward to welcoming the first residents once the homes are completed."

The scheme includes a programme of Good Relations activities over the next five years, complementing the construction of high-quality social housing in this rural area.
