Hagan Homes, one of Northern Ireland's leading homebuilders, recently welcomed Action Cancer's Skin Cancer Specialist Nurse, Iona McCormack, to its Springwater construction site in Ballyclare to launch the charity's Builders' Tea campaign.
The visit marked the first of several events planned across Hagan Homes sites, where construction teams will pause for a tea break while learning about the risks of working outdoors without adequate sun protection. Nurse McCormack spoke directly to site workers about recognising the early signs of skin cancer and the importance of using high-factor sunscreen, with a particular focus on those in the building trade who spend long hours exposed to UV rays.
Jim Burke, Managing Director of Hagan Homes, said: "We're proud to sponsor the Builders' Tea campaign and to be the first site to roll out the initiative and to welcome Action Cancer's Specialist Nurse to speak with our team. Our workers' health and safety are paramount, and raising awareness about skin cancer could genuinely save lives. We hope other companies across the sector join us in this important initiative."
Christopher Corbett, Action Cancer's Corporate Fundraising Executive, added: "We are delighted to have Hagan Homes leading the way. Their commitment to sponsoring this year's campaign is helping us spread the message of skin cancer prevention and early detection even further and to those most at risk. These events are about making time for health, over a simple cup of tea."
Through the Builders' Tea initiative, Action Cancer is aiming to raise £5,000, which will fund 40 free appointments with its Skin Cancer Detection Service—the only service of its kind available in Northern Ireland. Each participating site is provided with a Builders' Tea pack, supported by Thompson's Punjana tea and SuperValu biscuits, to encourage workers to come together, take a break and engage with the campaign.
