Northern Ireland-headquartered McLaughlin & Harvey has been appointed as the main contractor for the £33 million Geron Way Waste Transfer Station project, a key part of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme for the London Borough of Barnet Council.
The project, commissioned by the North London Waste Authority (NLWA), involves the construction of a 9,000 sqm facility designed to meet BREEAM Very Good standards. The works will include piled foundations, a steel frame superstructure, and associated external landscaping.
Due to begin in late September, the development has been planned to improve waste transfer services while reducing the impact of operations on nearby residents and supporting biodiversity across the site.
Martin Keys, Operations Director at McLaughlin & Harvey, said: "McLaughlin & Harvey have been building a successful portfolio of significant construction and civil engineering across the London and South East region over recent years. Geron Way Waste Transfer Station is another example of the capability and expertise we have in working with our clients to deliver excellent infrastructure that enhances local communities."
Councillor Alan Schneiderman, Barnet Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change and Cricklewood Ward Member, added: "The new Waste Transfer Station, which will manage waste and recycling for Barnet and six other North London boroughs, features modern and environmentally friendly elements such as living roofs, as well as noise and odour controls. These are not only impressive but also vital to us, and the design supports our commitment to achieving the highest sustainability standards while enhancing biodiversity."
