Derry City and Strabane District Council has commissioned improvement works to the Health Suite at Derg Valley Leisure Centre as part of the ongoing Derg Active upgrade project.
Contractors will begin work on Monday, September 29, with the Health Suite expected to remain closed for approximately eight weeks. All other areas of the leisure centre will remain fully operational during this time.
The upgrade includes the installation of infrared saunas, a cryospa, and refurbished showering and changing facilities, aimed at modernising the centre and enhancing user experience. Members are advised to use alternative Health Suite facilities at Riversdale Leisure Centre while the works are in progress.
Welcoming the start of the upgrade works, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, said: "I'm really pleased to see the Derg Active project continuing to move forward and the upgrade works at Derg Valley Leisure Centre now getting underway. This is a much-welcomed development for the local area, and it's great to see investment being made in facilities that will support the health and wellbeing of our community.
"These improvements will make a real difference to the people of the Derg Ward, providing a modern, accessible space for everyone to enjoy. I'm delighted to see it all coming together and look forward to the positive impact it will have in the weeks and months ahead."
The Derg Active project is funded by the UK Government and forms part of a wider programme targeting economic, health, wellbeing, social and environmental improvements in Castlederg, County Tyrone. The project seeks to deliver lasting regeneration, improving local amenities and community spaces.
