The Land Development Agency (LDA) has submitted a planning application to Galway City Council for a new residential development at the inner harbour, Galway Port.
The project, known as Amharc Atalia, will deliver 356 apartments across four blocks ranging from six to 13 storeys in height.
Phelim O'Neill, Director of Development at the Land Development Agency, said: "The submission of this planning application represents another significant milestone for LDA housing delivery in Galway. If approved, this impressive development will provide high quality, waterfront apartments in the heart of the city, in line with the LDA's focus on delivering the right homes in the right places."
The scheme is set to include 172 one-bedroom, 169 two-bedroom and 15 three-bedroom units. Alongside the housing provision, the plans incorporate a crèche, retail units, play areas, communal gardens, and landscaped open spaces. A new public plaza and a coastal walking path form part of the wider site layout, with car and bicycle parking spaces at surface level.
The land is being transferred to the LDA by Galway Harbour Company. Scott Tallon Walker Architects, working with the Port of Galway, have prepared the masterplan for the redevelopment of the inner harbour lands. This masterplan will accompany the planning application and outlines proposals for a sustainable, mixed-use urban quarter.
If approved, construction of Amharc Atalia is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2027. The development follows a public consultation process carried out by the LDA and Galway Harbour Company earlier this year.
Conor O'Dowd, Chief Executive of Galway Harbour Company added: "I am pleased to welcome this positive development, which underlines the progress we are making in our plans to transform Galway Harbour. We are working to deliver a new and sustainable quarter in Galway City and it is vital that this includes new housing, in addition to commercial outlets, recreational and cultural facilities along the water’s edge."
