The newly redeveloped Ballymote Playground in County Sligo has officially opened, providing modern, safe and accessible play facilities for children of all abilities and ages.
Local contractors carried out works on the project which involved the installation of inclusive play and sensory equipment, along with visual displays such as a Communication Board, which supports children in making choices, expressing themselves, and interacting socially.
The redevelopment was funded through key grant programmes from Sligo County Council and the Sligo LEADER Partnership, supplemented by community fundraising and local donations exceeding €50,000.
The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Cllr. Dónal Gilroy, officially opened the facility, acknowledging the contribution of Ballymote Community Council and its Playground Working Group in delivering a space that is accessible, inclusive, and engaging for all local children.
Speaking at the event, the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Cllr. Dónal Gilroy said: "It is my privilege to officially open this remarkable new Playground facility. This project that has brought joy, pride, and renewed energy to this town. The Playground is more than a collection of equipment; it is a symbol of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a purpose. Ballymote Community Council and its Playground Working Group, has delivered a space that is inclusive, imaginative, and built for every child in the area to enjoy."
Interim Chair of the Sligo LEADER Partnership, Mr. Finbarr Filan, added: "The formal opening of the Playground is a celebration of all the great work completed by Ballymote Community Council and its Playground Working Group."
