Construction has commenced on the new permanent building for Griffeen Community College in Lucan, County Dublin.
The project is being delivered under the Department of Education and Youth's Design and Build Programme and will provide a 1,000-pupil post-primary school at Kishogue Cross, Griffeen Avenue. Completion is anticipated in 2026.
Minister for Education and Youth, Helen McEntee TD, visited the site to observe progress. She highlighted the department's ongoing commitment to developing modern, fit-for-purpose learning environments and acknowledged the vital role of staff and students in bringing the new building to life.
The new facility is part of a broader investment in school infrastructure. Since 2020, the Department of Education and Youth has invested over €1.6 billion in Dublin alone, supporting 312 completed school building projects, with a further 98 currently in construction. Nationally, more than €6 billion has been allocated to school building projects, including over 1,400 completed projects and 400 currently underway, encompassing 40 entirely new school buildings.
Griffeen Community College, established in 2017 with just 16 students, has grown rapidly and will benefit from expanded space and improved facilities. The Design and Build approach ensures the school will meet current and future educational needs efficiently, combining high-quality construction with operational functionality.
The Minister also visited Collinstown Park Community College in Clondalkin to view their newly opened special education autism suite, recognising the ongoing commitment to inclusive and innovative educational facilities.
