ACS Civils To Deliver Kilmacrennan Active Travel Project

ACS Civils Ltd has been appointed as the main contractor for the R229 Kilmacrennan Active Travel Project in Letterkenny Town, County Donegal.

Works are scheduled to begin at the end of September 2025 and are expected to be completed by the end of September 2026.

The project covers the section of the R229 between the Hospital Roundabout and Knocknamona Roundabout, with an extension west from Knocknamona Roundabout to the Optum Business Park entrance.

During construction, a traffic management system will be in place to maintain two-way traffic daily between 7am and 7pm, except in exceptional circumstances or for specific construction requirements. Traffic updates will be available through Donegal County Council's MapAlerter service and website.

The scheme will improve accessibility and encourage active travel within Letterkenny Town, providing upgraded pedestrian facilities and a new two-way cycle route on the west side of the carriageway. Bus stops will also be incorporated to support public transport.
