Construction of 66 new homes has been completed across two developments in West Mayo, with a further 15-home project underway in Ballina.
The projects, managed by Mayo County Council, were officially opened and launched by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, on Friday, September 26.
The Murrevagh Close development in Mulranny comprises 16 dormer-style homes arranged in two linear terraces. This includes eight three-bedroom houses and eight two-bedroom houses, providing modern accommodation within walking distance of Mulranny village centre. The design takes advantage of the surrounding natural landscape while offering residents practical and convenient living.
In Westport, 50 houses have been constructed at Bog Road Demesne, significantly increasing the town's housing supply. The development consists of 36 three-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom homes, including 45 social houses and five affordable homes. The homes are arranged in clusters to create a cohesive neighbourhood environment.
In Ballina, the sod has been turned for a new 15-home development at the Meadows, marking the start of construction for additional social housing in the area.
Minister Browne emphasised the importance of providing high-quality, affordable homes through a structured housing supply: "I am determined to ensure that everyone has access to high-quality, affordable homes delivered through a well-planned supply of housing.
"Housing represents more than just a roof over your head. It's about offering safety, warmth and security. It's about enabling people to grow up and grow old in their communities," he added.
Meanwhile, Mayo County Council Chief Executive, Kevin Kelly, highlighted the council's ongoing commitment to supporting rural communities through targeted housing projects.
These developments reflect a €14.3 million investment by the Department of Housing, demonstrating the focus on increasing social and affordable housing across Mayo.
