DR Construction Completes Reilig Mhuire Burial Ground Extension

DR Construction Ltd has successfully completed the extension of the Reilig Mhuire Burial Ground in Askeaton, County Limerick, a project commissioned by Limerick City and County Council.

The contract, tendered in 2023 and valued at €107,751.11, was fully funded by the council and represents a significant investment in local community infrastructure.

Work on the 0.811-hectare site began in late 2023 and included site clearance, construction of footpaths, headstone foundation beams, and other essential works. Phase 1 of the development provides 292 burial plots and 41 ashes plots. When fully completed, the extension will accommodate 1,300 grave spaces and 164 ashes plots, developed in a phased approach to manage capacity and long-term planning effectively.

The official opening included a blessing of the site by Fr. John Mockler (Roman Catholic Church) and Rev. Kevin O'Brien (Church of Ireland), reflecting the inclusive nature of the facility.

Cllr Tommy Hartigan, deputising for the Mayor of Limerick, recognised the work of DR Construction in delivering the project to a high standard. Meanwhile, Kieran Lehane, Director of Environment, Climate Action and Shared Services, highlighted the careful planning behind the phased extension and the inclusion of ashes plots to meet evolving community needs.
