Braidwater Group recently welcomed WOMENSTEC NorthWest students to its Beech Hill View development in County L'Derry, giving them the chance to see a live construction site in action.
As one of Northern Ireland's leading housebuilders, Braidwater Group has more than 50 years' experience in the industry. The company is currently delivering some of the region's largest residential schemes, including Black Ridge in West Belfast with around 640 homes, and The Cashel in L'Derry, where approximately 2,500 homes are planned.
At Beech Hill View, the WOMENSTEC students were guided through the different stages of housebuilding, from timber frame installation through to internal and external finishing. The visit formed part of their six-week DIY course designed to develop practical trade skills and industry knowledge.
Aisling Conway, Senior People Manager at Braidwater Group, said the site visit was a valuable way to connect learning with real construction practice: "We were delighted to host such an enthusiastic group of WOMENSTEC students at our Beech Hill View site. Site visits like these are a fantastic way for students to gain hands-on understanding of the construction process, from the early timber frame installation right through to the finishing stages."
WOMENSTEC Programme Co-ordinator, Patricia Fleming, highlighted the importance of giving students exposure to a working site: "It was great to learn about the planning, preparation, co-ordination and hard work that goes into a building site. We were all impressed with how timber frame housing works and to see a site mid-construction was a fantastic experience. These visits really make a difference to our students and help them see the realities of work on a building site!"
Patricia also expressed appreciation to the Braidwater team: "Thank you to Kevin Cosgrove (site manager) for taking the time out of his busy schedule for us and to Aisling Conway from #NotJustForBoysChampions the Braidwater Group, who planned the visit and made it all possible."
