Mayo County Council's recently completed family housing development in Carnacon has been shortlisted in the ICSH IPB Community Housing Awards 2025.
The project is also in the running for the Public Choice Award, with members of the public able to vote until 11.59pm on October 13 at the Irish Council for Social Housing website.
The Carnacon development consists of nine family homes on a 0.82-hectare greenfield site provided by the local church. The scheme includes five two-bedroom and four three-bedroom dormer-style homes arranged around a shared public green. All houses are designed with age-friendly features and incorporate air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, achieving an A2 BER rating.
The site retains existing mature beech trees along its perimeter and includes new native hedgerow planting. Sustainability measures extend to on-site foul waste bio-treatment and surface water attenuation with natural filtration. The development benefits from its location within the village, with footpath connections to the local primary school, community centre, and other amenities.
