The Land Development Agency (LDA) has secured two large greenfield sites for housing development, including 86 hectares at Lissenhall in north County Dublin and 34 hectares in Celbridge, County Kildare.
Together, they have capacity for around 7,000 new homes, subject to planning approval.
Both sites were purchased from the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) and will be developed with a focus on housing delivery alongside supporting infrastructure and community facilities.
At Lissenhall, the LDA is planning for around 6,000 homes. The site sits 2km north of Swords and adjacent to the M1 motorway. It also incorporates the location for the proposed MetroLink Estuary terminus, providing direct transport links to Dublin city centre. The land is zoned as a Metro Economic Corridor and has the long-term potential to evolve into a new urban district for north Dublin. Development will be undertaken in collaboration with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), MetroLink, and Fingal County Council.
The Celbridge site, zoned for residential use under the local area plan, will deliver close to 1,000 homes. It benefits from strong transport links, including proximity to Hazelhatch & Celbridge train station, local bus routes, and the M4 motorway. The location is already supported by established social and community services such as schools, healthcare facilities, and retail amenities.
Discussing the acquisitions, John Coleman, Chief Executive of the LDA, said: "We are pleased to announce these significant land acquisitions in Co. Dublin and Co. Kildare from NAMA. We thank colleagues in NAMA and the Departments of Finance and Housing for working with us on the transfer of these lands. The LDA is firmly committed to using every lever available to unlock underutilised land for the provision of affordable housing. Through transfers of State-owned land, partnerships with local authorities and through our own land acquisitions, the LDA has a strong and growing delivery pipeline.
"Kildare and the Greater Dublin Area is a fast-developing and strategically important region with a pressing housing need and we are delighted to acquire these important sites for the delivery of much needed new homes."
