Wills Bros Ltd, acting as appointed contractors on behalf of Limerick City and County Council, have completed a new section of dual carriageway on the Coonagh to Knockalisheen Road Scheme.
These works run from the Tesco Roundabout at Coonagh to the recently constructed roundabout on Cratloe Road. This section will open to traffic tomorrow (October 3).
The partial opening improves traffic flow and connectivity in the area, providing immediate benefits to road users while work continues on the remaining sections of the route. The development coincides with a scheduled 24-hour closure of Cratloe Road from the Country Club to Killard starting Monday, October 6, enabling essential construction works. Local access for residents will be maintained throughout.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, highlighted the importance of the project for the Northside, noting that the new section will enhance access to education, employment and services. Minister for Transport, Darragh O'Brien TD, described the partial opening as a critical milestone, supporting transport links and future development.
Meanwhile, Limerick City and County Council Director General, Dr Pat Daly, acknowledged the work of Wills Bros Ltd and council staff in delivering high-quality infrastructure to support Limerick's growth and connectivity.
