Waterford City and County Council has launched an online survey to assess demand for affordable housing.
The results will guide the delivery and location of new housing schemes, ensuring developments meet the needs of local people.
The survey will inform the planning of Affordable Purchase Schemes, Cost Rental Schemes, and the Ready to Build Scheme. Under the Local Authority Affordable Purchase Scheme, new homes are sold at a reduced price to First Time Buyers and Fresh Start applicants whose mortgage and deposit cannot reach the full market price.
Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Séamus Ryan, said the survey would "provide valuable and practical insights into future affordable housing developments throughout Waterford, that will truly meet the demands of those eligible to apply."
He continued: "As Waterford City and County Council endeavours to provide more affordable homes, the results of the survey will roadmap the delivery of affordable homes in the locations they are needed. I would urge all prospective affordable housing applicants to complete the survey, as it is these opinions that will guide and inform the future planning of affordable housing schemes in Waterford."
Waterford City and County Council has already delivered homes under the Affordable Purchase Scheme at Deerpark in Williamstown, Summerfields in Kilbarry and The Courtyard in Tramore. Additional affordable homes are planned for the future. Cost Rental homes have also been provided at Gort na hInse, Ballinaneasagh, where rents are set at least 25% below market levels, based on the actual cost of construction, management and maintenance.
This survey is part of the council's wider work under the national Housing for All plan, which aims to increase the supply of affordable housing to those on low to moderate incomes.
The survey is open until Tuesday, October 21, and can be accessed here. Queries can be sent to [email protected].
