GMC Utilities Group will commence work next week on a significant water infrastructure project in Ardee, County Louth, replacing 670 metres of ageing water mains along John Street and the N2 Drogheda Road.
The works form part of Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme, aimed at improving network efficiency and ensuring a reliable water supply for homes and businesses.
The replacement project will address existing leaks, reduce the risk of bursts and outages, and deliver long-term operational savings by improving the efficiency of the water network.
Works along John Street will require staged lane closures between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday, while sections of the N2 Drogheda Road will be completed at night from 7pm to 7am, Monday to Friday. Access to homes and businesses on John Street will be maintained throughout the works.
Declan Healy of Uisce Éireann commented: "This section of the network has burst frequently over the last year which has significantly impacted the residents and businesses of John Street as repair works required extensive traffic management and prolonged supply interruptions.
"By replacing these ageing water mains, we are not only addressing current leakage issues but also preparing the network to meet the demands of future growth. These works will help safeguard this essential service for the community while also delivering long-term operational benefits."
The project is expected to be completed in early 2026.
