GMC Utilities Group Ltd is set to commence works next week on a significant water infrastructure upgrade between Celbridge, County Kildare, and Newcastle, County Dublin.
The project, carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann, involves replacing over five kilometres of ageing water mains as part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The phased works are designed to address long-standing issues with leakage in the area and will improve the reliability of the water network for both residents and businesses.
The first stage will start at the R405 Hazelhatch Road roundabout and continue north towards Celbridge, with this section expected to take three months to complete. Traffic management measures, including a stop/go system, will be in place during this period. Further stages will follow next year, with road closures anticipated and notice to be given in advance.
The overall project is scheduled for completion in Q2 2027. While short-term water outages may be required to facilitate the works, affected customers will receive at least 48 hours' notice.
Nicola Butler, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: "We are delighted to be getting these vital works underway. Replacing these ageing water mains will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages, ensuring that residents and businesses enjoy a more reliable supply of water. We would like to thank the local community in advance for their support and patience as we carry out these essential works."
