A £290,000 road improvement scheme commenced today (October 6) along the A5 Curr Road in Omagh, County Tyrone, at the Moylagh Road junction.

The project, commissioned by the Department for Infrastructure and delivered by its appointed contractor, will focus on upgrading a key stretch of the route between Meenmore Road (U1311) and Killadroy Road (C630).

The scheme includes 810 metres of full-width resurfacing, along with additional patching works to strengthen the carriageway at various points. Once complete, the improvements will provide a smoother, safer surface for residents, commuters and local businesses who rely on this busy section of the A5.

Discussing the scheme, Northern Ireland Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This substantial investment of £290,000 for the A5 Curr Road, Omagh will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To allow work to be completed safely, a lane closure is in place on the A5 Curr Road near the Moylagh Road junction between 9.30am and 4.30pm each day for approximately three weeks. Temporary speed limits will also be introduced between Meenmore Road and Killadroy Road, including a 40mph limit with no overtaking and a 10mph limit at certain times to support convoy working.

The works are expected to be substantially completed by Friday, October 24.
