Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLR) has received Part 8 planning approval for a series of significant residential projects, following public consultation and formal approval by elected members.
The Housing Department will now move forward with construction across multiple key sites, marking major progress in the delivery of new homes and supporting infrastructure throughout the county.
Leopardstown Road
Adjacent to Junction 14 of the M50, the Leopardstown Road site will accommodate 80 residential units in two buildings ranging from three to six storeys. The development includes one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, with landscaped communal areas, open space, car and cycle parking. The scheme is designed to integrate with existing transport connections and surrounding amenities.
Mount St Mary's, Dundrum
Located between the CUS Rugby Grounds and the protected Robert Emmet House, this project will provide 129 apartments across three blocks. A new public park of 2,481 sqm will form the centrepiece of the site, featuring formal gardens, pedestrian and cycle paths, and a structured play area. The development will include accessible and EV parking, as well as shared green spaces for residents.
Lamb's Cross, Sandyford
A compact brownfield site at Lamb's Cross will deliver 37 apartments within a 3–5 storey building over an undercroft level. The development will include communal spaces, an energy centre, and landscaped public areas along Sandyford and Hillcrest Roads. The undercroft will accommodate parking, bin storage, and plant areas, ensuring efficient use of space and infrastructure.
Blackthorn Drive, Balally, Sandyford
On a greenfield site between Balally Shopping Centre and Drummartin Link Road, the Council plans to construct a 5–6 storey apartment building over an undercroft, providing 62 residential units. The scheme includes a community facility, an energy centre, and an external plant area. The development will support a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, enhancing local housing choice and community facilities.
Next steps
The council has engaged with local residents and stakeholders throughout the planning process and will continue this collaboration through the construction phase and beyond. These developments together represent a substantial investment in housing delivery and community growth across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
