Tipperary County Council has signed a contract with Mulcahy Construction Ltd for Phase 2 of the Activating Cahir's Town Centre Regeneration Strategy.
The contract, valued at €1,763,355.12 (ex. VAT), covers the alteration and refurbishment of the historic Granary Building, which will become the new Cahir Library. The project is jointly funded by the Rural Regeneration Development Fund and Tipperary County Council.
Phase 2 will see the transformation of the Granary into a modern library facility, incorporating dedicated areas for adults and children, an exhibition and study space, meeting room, makers’ and robotics area, sensory room, podcasting studio, and the My Open Library service.
This development forms a key part of Tipperary County Council's wider regeneration strategy for Cahir. Further construction phases will follow on a staggered basis, including the restoration of the Market House façade to create a new business centre, and public realm and landscaping works throughout the Square, Castle Street, Church Street, Old Church Street, and St. Mary's Road.
