Farrans Sacyr JV has been awarded the Social Value and Community Impact Award at the British Construction and Infrastructure Awards (BCIA) 2025 for its work on Belfast Grand Central Station, delivered for client Translink.
The joint venture placed social value at the centre of its approach from the very beginning of the project, embedding community benefits and inclusive engagement into every stage of delivery. Around 180 local employment opportunities were created, and the team engaged with more than 5,500 young people, ensuring lasting benefits for the community around the major transport hub.
Judges praised the project as "a strong example of quantifiable and pioneering benefits which could set the standard for industry more widely," noting the JV's effective management of complex stakeholder relationships and its innovative approach to community engagement.
Farrans also earned further recognition at the awards, receiving a Highly Commended in the Transport Project category for the Gull Wing Bridge delivered for Suffolk County Council. The Govan to Partick Bridge project for Glasgow City Council was also shortlisted in the Project Team Excellence category.
The wider Belfast Grand Central Station delivery team achieved additional success, with Arup winning the Engineering Excellence Award and Translink receiving a Highly Commended in the Digital Impact category.
