Ward and Burke Construction Ltd has completed the replacement of over 1.7km of ageing cast iron water mains in Mitchelstown, County Cork, delivering a modern, more resilient water network for the community.
The project involved upgrading a section of the supply from Galtee Water Treatment Plant to Mitchelstown, which had been prone to frequent bursts. The new infrastructure improves service reliability, reduces water loss, and strengthens the overall resilience of the network.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager for Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, said: "We are delighted to have undertaken this project, providing benefits for homes and businesses in Mitchelstown. This upgraded network will provide a more secure and reliable water supply to customers by eliminating existing leaks and reducing the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground every day.
"We would like to thank the local community of Loughananna for their patience and cooperation while we carried out these essential works in the area."
Following the completion of the main works, permanent road reinstatement will be programmed and carried out in partnership with Limerick County Council.
