Derry City and Strabane District Council is holding a public consultation on the proposed plans for section one of the Strabane–Sion Greenway.
The event will take place on Tuesday, October 28, from 10.30am to 9pm at Melvin Sports Centre in Strabane, County Tyrone.
The Greenway is part of the council’s ongoing programme to deliver active travel infrastructure across the district. The planned route will run from the Melvin Sports Complex along the River Mourne, linking to Sion Mills at Herdman's Mill and continuing to Camus Bridge, using sections of the former railway line.
Council Green Infrastructure officers will be present to discuss the proposals and display detailed plans for the project. The consultation provides an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to review the draft route and provide feedback before design and construction progress to the next stage.
Cllr Declan Norris, Chairperson of the Environment and Regeneration Committee, commented: "The Strabane–Sion Greenway will create a safe and accessible link between Strabane, Sion Mills, and beyond, encouraging more people to walk, wheel, and cycle for everyday journeys as well as leisure. It will connect communities, promote sustainable travel, and open up new opportunities to enjoy our local landscape. We want to hear from residents, community groups, and stakeholders to ensure the project reflects local needs and aspirations."
