Essential maintenance works worth £100,000 are set to take place on the A28 between Armagh and Markethill, ensuring safer and smoother journeys for motorists along this key route.
Contractors, working on behalf of the Department for Infrastructure, will carry out defect repairs, large-scale patching, road markings and drainage improvements. The scheme is scheduled to run from Monday, October 27, to Friday, October 31, with work taking place between 9.30am and 4.30pm each day. The timing coincides with the school half-term break to help minimise disruption.
To facilitate the works safely, a daytime road closure will be in place throughout the period. Clearly signed diversions will direct traffic as follows:
Newry-bound traffic will be diverted via the A3 Friary Road, A3 Barrack Street, A51 Gaol Square, A51 Barrack Hill, A51 Hamiltonsbawn Road, A51 Main Street, B111 Mullaghbrack Road and B78 Mullaghbrack Road.
Armagh-bound traffic will follow a diversion via the A28, B0003 Keady Street, Gosford Road, B78 Castleview Road, B0078 Main Street, B3 Coolmillish Road, B31 Newtownhamilton Road, A29 Keady Road, A3 Slip Road North, A3 Irish Street, A3 Friary Road and A3 Barrack Street.
Announcing the works, Northern Ireland Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This investment in these essential maintenance works will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
