Castletownbere Mains Upgrade To Secure Water Supply Begins

Uisce Éireann is set to replace ageing water mains in Castletownbere this week, aiming to improve reliability and reduce leaks for local customers.

Works along the L4935 and R572 at Felane West will see 2.3 kilometres of new, modern pipes installed to strengthen the network and minimise disruption for homes and businesses.

The current infrastructure has been prone to bursts and leaks, leading to interruptions in supply and the loss of treated drinking water. Welcoming the scheme, Jack Cronin of Uisce Éireann said the upgrades will reduce leakage and give residents greater confidence in their water service.

The programme includes installing new service connections from the public main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and linking them to individual supplies.

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. is delivering the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected in October. Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works, and access for local and emergency vehicles will be maintained.
