NI Water has launched a major Water Infrastructure Improvement Scheme that will see around 17km of new water mains and associated connections installed across the Larne area.

Most activity will take place in built-up residential parts of the town, alongside targeted enhancements to the rural network.

The programme will move between a number of locations across the borough and is expected to continue for approximately two and a half years. NI Water will give advance notice of works via local signage and media updates to help residents and road users plan ahead.

James McCammon, NI Water Project Manager, said: "We are delighted to commence this major programme of improvements, which will greatly benefit residents and businesses in the Larne area. This significant £2.5 million investment in the water infrastructure will improve the security of the water supply as well as enhancing drinking water quality for customers throughout the area.

"We anticipate that the improvements will initially commence in the Edward Avenue area in September, then progress to Wyncairn, Ferris Avenue and the surrounding area.

"NI Water and our project team including main contractor Nuline Coras JV would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation and will do everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum as the work progresses."

A substantial share of the work will use environmentally friendly trenchless techniques, allowing pipes to be laid underground with far less excavation. This approach is designed to minimise disruption for local communities and road users.

Traffic management and clear signage will be in place throughout, and local access will be maintained at all times. NI Water will issue notifications as the scheme progresses to keep residents and businesses informed of key dates.

The project team urges the public to stay clear of working areas and machinery. Warning signs will be displayed around sites, and parents and guardians are asked to ensure children do not play in or near construction zones.
