Ireland's construction sector continues to deliver, with new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showing a 13% increase in home completions in the first nine months of 2025.
Between January and September, 24,325 new homes were completed — the highest total recorded for the period since the CSO began tracking the data in 2011.
From July to September alone, 9,235 homes were finished, up 4% on the same quarter in 2024. The figures underline the continued strength of construction activity across the country, with contractors, developers and trades driving delivery under the Government's housing strategy.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, welcomed the results, saying the increased output demonstrates real progress in tackling housing supply: "Supply remains central to addressing the challenges in housing and today's figures are a welcome sign of progress. These new homes will make a real and lasting difference for the families and individuals who will live in them. While the data is encouraging, we cannot and will not be complacent. I am driving on to accelerate delivery to ensure even greater progress in the months ahead."
Minister Browne highlighted that the recent Budget has committed record funding to housing delivery, alongside planning reforms to speed up development, measures to boost rental supply, and new supports for both homebuyers and renters. A forthcoming housing plan is also expected to build further momentum in increasing home completions and improving access to affordable housing.
The CSO report shows growth across all housing types and regions. Apartment completions in Q3 2025 reached 3,160, a 3% rise on the same quarter last year. Scheme dwellings totalled 4,551, up 1%, while single dwellings saw the strongest increase — up 15% to 1,524 units. Scheme homes made up 49% of completions, with apartments accounting for 34% and single homes 17%.
Regional data shows notable progress in the Mid-East (Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow), where completions were up 35% on last year. Clondalkin recorded the highest number of completions by Local Electoral Area, with 640 new homes delivered in Q3.
The CSO noted a 4% quarter-on-quarter fall in seasonally adjusted completions from Q2 to Q3 2025, though the overall year-to-date figures confirm a strong upward trend in homebuilding nationwide.
