The Law Society of Northern Ireland (LSNI) has announced a new strategic partnership with Carbonfit, aimed at helping law firms across the region reduce emissions, cut energy costs, and future-proof their practices in an increasingly sustainability-focused business landscape.

The partnership was officially launched on Thursday, with speakers including Simon Chambers, Chair of the Law Society’s Climate Justice Group; Ben Craig, Carbonfit's Head of Partnerships and Business Development; and Colin Mitchell, President of the Law Society of Northern Ireland. Each speaker highlighted the growing importance of data-led climate action within the legal profession and the tangible benefits of taking a proactive approach to sustainability.

The collaboration follows Carbonfit's recent work with the Law Society, during which it conducted a full carbon footprint assessment and energy procurement review. The initiative has already produced impressive results:

• 30% reduction in electricity costs

• 20% reduction in gas costs

• 100% elimination of electricity-related emissions, equating to savings of over 35 tonnes of CO₂e annually

These outcomes showcase the potential for climate responsibility and commercial efficiency to align, delivering both environmental and financial benefits.

Through the new partnership, LSNI members will gain access to Carbonfit’s award-winning Net Zero Intelligence Platform, along with expert support to help firms measure, manage, and reduce their carbon footprint. The initiative is designed to support legal practices of all sizes as they respond to evolving regulatory requirements and client expectations around sustainability.
