Farrans' commitment to corporate social responsibility was recently demonstrated in Monaghan, where ten volunteers from its local Uisce Éireann team took part in a community volunteering day at Dernagrew.
The company, which has an office in Monaghan town, has a 40-strong team based there, responsible for managing the North West region under Uisce Éireann's Water and Waste Water Multi-Supplier Framework. This vital work covers eight counties: Donegal, Sligo, Roscommon, Galway, Cavan, Leitrim, Monaghan, and Mayo.
As part of their CSR programme, the Farrans team collaborated with local partners to plant 50 apple trees at Dernagrew. This initiative effectively doubled the size of the orchard, which began as a previous volunteering project in early 2024.
The project was organised in partnership with the Monaghan Volunteer Centre, Monaghan Tidy Towns, Monaghan County Council horticulture staff, and local residents.
Sinéad Keenan, Volunteer Centre co-ordinator, expressed her delight with the corporate volunteering effort: "It has benefitted the company, the environment and the local community." She added that the trees were chosen with guidance from Monaghan County Council horticulturist Michael Carroll, who also demonstrated the best planting techniques for the volunteers.
Ms Keenan thanked all collaborators, including Michael Carroll, his assistant Sinéad, Emer Brennan of Monaghan Tidy Towns, and "in particular Farrans and their staff for their valuable contributions."
