Uisce Éireann crews are continuing emergency repair works to fix a major burst water main at the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant in County Tipperary. The burst has severely impacted the water supply for almost 11,000 customers across a wide area.
The burst is affecting numerous locations, including Goatenbridge, Poulatar, Newcastle, Ballybacon, Grange, Ardfinnan, Jamestown, Marlfield, Neddens, Loughryan, Loughtally, Derrygrath, Newchapel, Rathkeevin, Inishlounaght, Nicholastown, Knocklofty, Grauige Group Water Scheme, Castlegrace Cahir Town, Kedrah, Knockagh, Red City, Colman, Poulmucka, and Clerihan Village.
John Fogarty of Uisce Éireann apologised to impacted customers: "Uisce Éireann acknowledge the impact of an unplanned outage. Expert crews have been deployed and are working to resolve the issue as quickly and as safely as possible. We thank the local community for their patience as we carry out these essential repair works."
Repairs to the water main are expected to be completed by 11.30pm on Monday, 27 October.
Following the completion of the repairs, it typically takes two to three hours for normal supply to restore to all customers. However, Uisce Éireann noted that it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
To ensure the safety of the crews carrying out the essential repairs and the public, traffic management is currently in place and clearly signposted in the area.
Alternative Water Supplies are available at the following locations, with customers reminded to bring their own containers and boil the water before consumption as per HSE advice: Ardfinnan Church; Marlfield Village; Newcastle National School; Grange National School; Newchapel Cross; Castle Carpark Cahir; Moloneys Bar Poulmucka; Clerihan National School.
