Funding for Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection for Moneen, Tuam, County Galway has been announced by Minister Kevin "Boxer" Moran.
The Office of Public Works (OPW) has confirmed its approval of the application submitted by Galway County Council under the OPW's Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme.
Under the scheme, the OPW has approved funding of €47,700 for the planned construction works.
The project at Moneen will include the installation of a 92-metre bund. This structure is proposed to be approximately 3 metres wide with a maximum height of 2 metres, and will tie into existing high points at both ends. The project will also include some minor ancillary drainage works necessary to mitigate flood risk in the area.
This funding commitment ensures that construction can proceed on the local flood defence scheme, providing enhanced protection for the community in Tuam.
