Uisce Éireann crews are set to begin a major programme of water mains replacement in Kiltimagh, East Mayo.
As part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme, over 1.5km (1,521 metres) of aging cast iron water mains on the Swinford Road (R320) will be replaced with modern pipes. The upgrade will significantly reduce the risk of bursts and other operational issues, ensuring a more secure water supply for both domestic and non-domestic customers in the area.
The works are scheduled to begin next week and continue through the winter until early 2026. To facilitate construction, Mayo County Council has granted a road closure at Attavally from Monday, 3 November to Monday, 19 January. The road will reopen temporarily over the Christmas period, from 22 December to 5 January, to minimise disruption.
During the closure, traffic will be diverted via the R321 (Bohola Road) and the N5, with local and emergency access maintained at all times.
Some nearby customers may experience short-term water supply interruptions, but the project team will provide at least 48 hours' notice prior to any planned disruptions.
The mains replacement works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction.
