Two new high-level groups to accelerate housing delivery across the country and ensure essential public infrastructure is delivered in tandem with housing demand have been announced by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD.
The creation of the Housing Activation Delivery Group and the Housing Activation Industry Group follows the establishment of the Housing Activation Office (HAO) earlier this year. The HAO's core commitment is to coordinate the investment in infrastructure needed to unlock key housing sites nationwide, and its team has already met with every local authority to assess delivery blockages.
Minister Browne stressed the need for alignment and collaboration: "Delivering homes at the scale we need requires closer alignment across Government and tighter collaboration between the public and private sectors. The new Housing Activation Delivery and Industry Groups will ensure that infrastructure, policy and delivery partners are working together in a coordinated and transparent way to remove barriers and accelerate housing supply."
Structure and Purpose of the Groups:
Housing Activation Delivery Group: This group comprises senior leadership from key government departments and infrastructure agencies. Its mandate is to oversee the HAO, drive the development of a coordinated programme of public infrastructure investment, monitor progress, and support the delivery of the new Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund under the National Development Plan.
Housing Activation Industry Group: This group provides a structured forum for regular engagement between the Minister and private industry representative bodies. Its purpose is to share insights from the construction sector, identify emerging challenges, and collaboratively develop practical solutions to delivery barriers.
The next steps for the initiative include the HAO finalising the details of the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund ahead of its launch later this year, alongside continued engagement with local authorities to identify priority infrastructure projects.
