Uisce Éireann has announced the commencement of a vital €750,000 upgrade project to the water infrastructure in the Dunbin area of Dundalk, County Louth.

The investment is part of Uisce Éireann's national programme to increase the capacity of water and wastewater infrastructure to enable social and economic growth, particularly the delivery of essential housing.

The project involves upgrading almost 1.2 kilometres of water mains along the R171 Ardee Road and the R178 Carrickmacross Road.

Donal O'Connor of Uisce Éireann confirmed the direct impact of the work: "This upgrade represents an important investment in Dundalk's water network. By creating additional supply capacity, the project will support future growth and development in Dunbin and allow for new homes to be built in the area."

The increased capacity specifically enables the potential development of over 120 new homes in the community and improves resilience for existing customers.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne T.D., welcomed the commencement: "Continued investment in public water services is essential to facilitating housing delivery. That is why in the recent Budget we have increased Uisce Éireann's funding by almost €500 million for 2026 – money that will accelerate the delivery of water infrastructure and support the development of new homes across the country."

He noted the recent Budget approval of an almost €500 million funding increase for Uisce Éireann in 2026 to accelerate infrastructure delivery.

To ensure safe delivery of the works by contractor GMC Utilities Ltd, a Stop/Go traffic management system will be implemented along the affected sections of the R178 and R171 roads, primarily between 7 am and 6 pm, Monday to Friday. Customers will be notified 48 hours in advance of any planned short-term interruptions to water supply.
